Frequently Asked Questions

For Customers

At The Pantry, we prioritise sourcing products that align with our commitment to community, quality, and diversity. The produce and a selection of arts and giftware come directly from the talented and generous members of the Mount Nebo & Mount Glorious community.

The Pantry prides itself on a diverse selection of products, primarily sourced from the local community and complemented by carefully chosen items from a variety of other suppliers and social enterprises. This approach allows us to offer a wide range of goods, from fresh, local produce and artisanal crafts, to select items that meet our community's needs and preferences. Our goal is to provide a unique and thoughtful assortment that supports our mission of community sharing and engagement.

Due to the nature of our operations and the fact that food items are considered private sales facilitated by us, we cannot accept returns or provide refunds for food items. For non-food items, standard Australian Consumer Law applies, allowing for returns in specific circumstances, such as major faults.

The Pantry benefits from a generous arrangement with Elysian2, a business solutions software company, which allows us to operate within a shared space. As such, our opening hours align closely with standard work hours during the week, with extended availability during some after-hours to accommodate our community's needs.

On weekends, The Pantry is staffed by dedicated volunteers, ensuring that we remain open and accessible for everyone as much as we can.

For Contributors

Community members interested in contributing can contact The Pantry directly through our website contact form or visit us during operating hours to discuss the process. We welcome a variety of produce and goods, subject to quality checks and space availability.

For Handmade or Crafted Goods:

  • Local Production: All non-food items should be handmade or crafted within the local community or surrounding areas. This supports local artisans and small businesses, fostering a strong local economy.
  • Quality and Craftsmanship: Goods should exhibit a high level of craftsmanship, durability, and function. Items should be designed and produced with care, reflecting the skill and dedication of the creator.
  • Originality: We seek items that are unique and original, offering our customers a selection that stands out for its creativity and individuality. Products that tell a story or embody the spirit of the Mount Nebo community are highly valued.
  • Eco-friendly Materials: Whenever possible, goods should be made using sustainable, eco-friendly, or recycled materials. This commitment to sustainability reflects our dedication to minimizing environmental impact.

For Food Produce:

  • Freshness: All produce should be freshly harvested and in good condition to ensure the highest quality for our customers. Items should be free from spoilage, pests, and significant damage.
  • Quantity: To efficiently manage stocking and ensure a worthwhile selection for our customers, we request that food contributions be of a significant quantity. For example, a contribution should consist of at least a box of 15+ lemons or an equivalent quantity for other types of produce.
  • Seasonal Variability: We embrace the natural ebb and flow of seasonal produce, encouraging contributions that reflect the current season's bounty. This approach supports sustainability and provides our customers with the freshest, most nutritious options.
  • Packaging: To reduce waste, we encourage minimal and eco-friendly packaging for all produce. Contributions should be presented in a way that is both hygienic and aligned with our environmental values.

General Considerations:

  • Responsibility: Contributors are responsible for ensuring their goods meet these guidelines. The Pantry reserves the right to decline items that do not comply with our standards.
  • Stocking and Sales: Placement and promotion of goods within The Pantry are at the discretion of our management team, aiming to highlight a diverse and appealing selection for our community.
  • Collection of Unsold Items: Contributors should be prepared to collect any unsold goods within a specified timeframe. Perishable items not collected may be donated or disposed of responsibly.

By adhering to these guidelines, contributors play a vital role in The Pantry's mission to bring the community together through the sharing of local, sustainable, and high-quality goods and produce. Together, we can ensure The Pantry remains a cherished resource for all members of the Mountain community.

Perishable items that remain unsold by the end of their viable selling period may need to be disposed of. Contributors have the option to reclaim their unsold items before disposal by coordinating with The Pantry staff.

Contributors receive payment for their sold items, less a 10% operational fee, on a monthly basis. Payment details and arrangements are discussed and agreed upon when you begin contributing to The Pantry.
